Ever since I was a child, I've been fascinated with women who choose to live a life of seclusion and sacrifice in a convent or monastery. So when I saw this novel by Sarah Dunant, one of my favourite authors, I immediately ordered it.
The novel explores how many women were forced to enter monasteries in Renaissance Italy, and its effects on the cloister and the individuals who lived therein. Meticulously researched, I found the entire novel fascinating. It is a tale well told and one I will definitely keep on my book shelf as an all time favourite.

About Me
Mirella Patzer is a true blue Taurean in every way; stubborn, tenacious, loyal, friendly, outgoing, and headstrong. Oh, and you can add passion to the mix - a trait she comes by honestly through her Italian background. So she never does things half way.
She was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, but grew up in Calgary, a city famous for the Calgary Stampede, oil companies, and the Wild West.
Mirella hates winter, and wearing socks. She spends far too much time at the computer and often gives up a work-out to squeeze in a little bit more writing time which is always in great shortage due to a rambunctious little grandson who frequently interrupts her work with a variety of unanticipated, yet humorous calamities and disasters.
She loves all things Italian, a clean house, books, cooking, writing, and a good helping of her own home made tira-mi-su which she swears is the best anyone's ever tasted.
So stay awhile to share her passion for history and the frustrations she faces on a daily basis as she eeks out a career as an historical fiction author.

Hi Mirella:) I too am fascinated by the women of those times and the seclusion they lived...however, no matter how many times I tried reading this one, I just couldn't get through it. It just didn't do it for me (and I really wanted it to!) I'm glad you enjoyed it:) the setting and the time period are certainly wonderful. Thanks Mirella:)
I also love this author and have not read this one. May have to give it a try.
